Summer Update from James and Virág

Dear Friends,
I've been writing this update in my head for the past few weeks. I'm sorry for the delay in getting our thoughts down and sent out! This summer has gone fairly well, despite it not turning out exactly how I'd envisioned. Sophie will be starting school next week and thus a new phase in our lives starts...Here's a short update of what's been going on:

Finishing teaching
In March I made the difficult decision that I would finish my 2 day a week teaching job at the end of the school year. Even last week I have been offered my old job back, "in case you changed your mind" - but I haven't. Despite the temptation of having this greater financial security, it stole too much time from more important things.

Scripture Union summer camp
It was so great to return and see kids from last year and build on those existing relationships, as well as meeting new kids. Several of the children had difficult family circumstances - split parents, parents that have died, half siblings etc, and they really bonded with us leaders.

We really felt God with us during the week and we were able to layout the gospel so clearly through the bible drama teaching, memory verse learning, small group discussions, songs in English and Hungarian, sharing our testimonies, and of course all through the day, the many one to one conversations.

Virág's new job
Since May, I have had the honour of working for Hungarian Baptist Aid in our village. It's similar work to my previous job but on a bigger scale. This organisation wants to help disadvantaged people with several " catch up" programs. Our work is to mentor families that have kids aged 0-3. We help how to write a CV, how to apply for jobs, or with any paperwork for their daily lives.
As a believer I want to share God's love and I hope I will be able to do that, as my colleagues aren't Christian. It's already a challenge as their beliefs are very different. But their hearts are for these people, so I hope together we can make a difference in these peoples' lives.

Please pray with us about the following challenges/decisions:

  • Youth group - how to proceed
  • Balancing time - family, coffeeshop and new projects
  • Coffeeshop - how to grow and develop, how to use it to make bigger impact
  • Church - what Sunday worship and community looks like for us in this season

There is now a new, easy way to financially support our work from the UK with Stewardship
(whether or not you have an account with them): Stewardship.org.uk - GEMUK_JWM

Lastly, thank you for journeying alongside us!
